Although not yet sold in the market, the Mini E Electric Car will be leased to 500 select private and corporate customers in one year. This contract will include all the necessary maintenance that will be handled by BMW’s staff and technicians. After one year, all the cars would be returned to BMW to be checked and repaired.

It will take several years before this electric vehicle becomes fully available to the public. However, BMW is upbeat about its potential and the possibilities that it brings to the table.

At MetaEfficient, I am a strong advocate of car-free living (see my review of the books How To Live Well Without Owning A Car and Car-Free Cities). However, clean, electric vehicles can be useful in some situations. If you recharge them using a renewable energy source such as solar power, they are completely emissions-free. The least expensive way to get an electric car is to convert your current car to an electric vehicle — see this article I wrote more info. Here’s a round-up of the pure electric cars that can be ordered today:

Crown cars picturez

he Crown has evolved into a line of full-size luxury sedans by Toyota. The range was primarily available in Japan and some other Asian countries, originally designed to serve as a taxi. It was in later years sold in the United States during the late 1950s and up until 1971. The Crown is Toyota's oldest sedan still in production. It is outranked only by the Century and the Majesta in social status. The Crown is used by many Japanese companies as the company limosiune. Exports to Europe began in 1964 with the first cars going to Finland. Other European countries which saw imports of the Crown included the Netherlands and Belgium. The United Kingdom was another market until the early 1980s. It was also exported to Canada for a few years—1965–68. In many markets the Crown had become very expensive and was replaced by the Cressida when that model became available for export in the early 1980s.

I Am a Dreamer

Cars & Driving

My Oh MyI don’t mean Smurfs in the mall eating pretzels and ice cream dreams, I mean real life, attainable things that most folks call pie in the sky. A lot of people are afraid to dream big, because it only hammers home the sense of hopelessness they feel when they don’t achieve their dreams. I think that’s pretty sad, really, but I’m not here to talk about mankind’s shortcomings. Today, I am here to share some of my ideas on what to do with that spare million when you just don’t know what to do with it.

Ram cars picz

Speculation refuses to die down about a potential merger of Nissan and Chrysler, and announcements such as plans to collaborate on small cars and full-size pickups only adds fuel to the flames.

Nissan already signed an agreement with Chrysler to build a version of its Versa subcompact for Chrysler to sell in South America starting next year. That arrangement has been expanded to include a new small car of Chrysler design for the Detroit carmaker to sell in North America, Europe, and other global markets beginning in 2010. The car would be built by Nissan at its Oppama plant in Japan.

Currently, Chrysler’s smallest car is the C-segment Dodge Caliber. But with high gasoline prices, the popularity of B-sized cars has grown, as has the number of entries. Besides the Versa, competitors include the Chevrolet Aveo, Honda Fit, and Toyota Yaris. Even smaller is the Smart Fortwo.

In return, Chrysler will give Nissan a version of its Dodge Ram which will be the next-generation Nissan Titan. The Japanese automaker would design the truck, but its underpinnings would be all Ram for ease of assembly at a Chrysler plant. This helps Chrysler better utilize its manufacturing capacity. As high gasoline prices bite into full-size truck sales, Chrysler can add the Titan to the mix at its Saltillo, Mexico, plant and shift some Ram production from Mexico to its U.S. truck plants, including the St. Louis, Missouri, facility.
