Firestone TVS plant inaugurated near Madurai
Firestone TVS Pvt. Ltd., a joint venture between the US-based Firestone Industrial Products Company (FIPC) and India’s Sundaram Industries (of the TVS Group), recently kicked off its Greenfield project at Vellarippatti, near Madurai. The Firestone TVS plant, where air springs will be made for automotive OEMs, the aftermarket and also for the Indian Railways, was inaugurated last week by Mike Cerio, President, FIPC.
FIPC has about eight decades of experience in the manufacture of air-springs and air-suspension systems. Its JV with Sundaram Industries will enable the latter to make high-tech air-springs for Indian automotive OEMs. The company’s plant near Madurai will include testing and evaluation facilities and an R&D centre.
Firestone TVS Pvt. Ltd. plans to increase capacity to 500,000 air-springs per annum, within the next five years. The company also intends to import different types of air-springs from FIPC, for industrial use. These will be distributed in India through the Firestone TVS sales and service network.
